Jo Phinney

June 20, 1921 — February 6, 2010

Jo Helen Daniel Phinney, 88, of Bainbridge, GA died Saturday February 6, 2010. She was born June 20, 1921 in Fort Worth, Texas to Fred Corbett and Bertha Mae Talley Daniel, the 2nd of three children. Her sister June died in 1977 and her brother Fred Stuart died in 1992. Jo married Wesley Phinney March 22, 1942 in Weatherford, Texas. Wes died September 11, 1976. Jo and Wes moved to Bainbridge in 1955 from Fort Worth. Jo was employed at Citizens Bank and Trust for many years, retiring there in the late 1980's. A remarkable, independent lady, a friend to many, and a tribute to her generation, she will be missed for her undying loyalty and her unwavering standards and expectations. Her Christian faith enabled a strong endurance through her last few days in spite of difficult frailties weighing heavily on her spirit. Her Lydia Sunday School class was great strength to her in the last few years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include her son Sandy and daughter in law Susan of Canton, GA; two grandsons, Thomas Wesley Phinney III, and Corbett Battles Phinney; six great grandchildren Zachary, Emeline, Bret, Katherine Daniel, Margaret (Meg), and Thomas James Phinney. Her sister in law Billie Mitchell Daniel lives in Oklahoma City. Six nieces survive: Freddie Gayle, Roianna, Nancy, Cheryl, Debby, and Laura Beth. Only a few cousins remain, including Martha Ann Crawford in Fort Worth, Roger Chenault in Houston, and Bill Daniel in Amarillo, and Oleta Beaty Roberts in Arizona. The family will receive friends Tuesday, February 9, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery.
