John Bayides

Funeral Services for Mr. John James Bayides Jr., 66, of Rincon, GA will be held Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Attapulgus Baptist Church with Rev. Shelly Chandler officiating. Interment will follow in Attapulgus Baptist Church Cemetery with Ricky Brock, Sheldon Brock, Brent Tolar, John Brock, Andrew Brock, and Joe Hartzog serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dewey Brock, Larry Brock, and Gerald Tolar. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at Attapulgus Baptist Church. Mr. Bayides was born February 13, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY to John Bayides Sr. and the now late Martha Tapas Bayides. He graduated from Attapulgus High School in 1960. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in Vietnam as a Captain, where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He worked for the Savannah, GA Police Dept. for more than twenty years and had a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice from Armstrong State College in Savannah. He was employed as a postal clerk with the U.S. Post Office in Rincon, GA where he had lived for the past eighteen years after moving from Savannah. He was ministered to by Rev. Andy Meaker of Wilmington Island Presbyterian Church in Savannah. The family was honored by the love and prayers of the church family. Mr. Bayides coached Little League Baseball during the 1980's and will always be remembered as Coach J. Mr. Bayides passed away Saturday, January 2, 2009 at Candler Hospital in Savannah. He is survived by his wife, Norma Bayides of Rincon, GA; his daughter and son- in- law Lynn and Tim Baumgartner and grandchildren Courtney, Regan, and Brock all of Savannah, GA; his son and daughter - in- law, John D. III and Ann Bayides of Savannah, GA; and his father, John Bayides Sr. of Attapulgus, GA.
