John Lafayette Doyle, 87, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Friday, December 13, 2019. The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leslie Dellenbarger officiating. Born in Camden, NJ on April 20, 1932, Jack fondly remembered growing up in Cape May County, NJ. As an adult he raised a family, owned and lived in the same house in Ocean City, NJ for 34 years. He resided in Blowing Rock, NC, Blue Ridge, GA and since 2000 in Bainbridge, GA. After serving with the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA in 1957 thanks to the GI Bill available after his release from active military duty. Immediately after completion of his studies at Lehigh, he joined the General Electric Company in Philadelphia, PA as a Financial Management Trainee. There he was educated in early data processing/computer technology as a customer representative by the IBM Corporation. The training by IBM enabled him to engage in systems analysis/data processing systems design including computer programming and computer operation focusing on business and financial applications for GE. In 1961 he joined the mail order (eventually a national retail store chain) Spencer Gifts, Inc, headquartered in Atlantic City, NJ, as controller/data processing manager where he installed the company's first computer system. There he quickly rose to CFO, Vice-President and Treasurer. Shortly after that he became Executive Vice President, Director of Operations, a title he held for most of his 24-year tenure with this publicly traded growth company which eventually became a subsidiary of the conglomerate MCA, Inc. located in Universal City, CA. Survivors include his beloved wife, Lynne of Bainbridge, GA; his daughter, Suzann Doyle Ball and her husband, Lowell, of Raleigh, NC; his son, Dr. Richard Matthew Doyle of State College, PA; his four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three stepchildren. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Ann, and their son, John Jr.
