Joseph Hover

Dr. Joseph W. Hover, 87, of Norwich, NY, passed away Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at the New York State Veteran's Home in Oxford. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 at R. J. Fahy Funeral Home with Pastor John Portney officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 31, 2010 from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m., prior to the funeral service, at R. J. Fahy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the New York State Veteran's Home at Oxford, Residents' Fund, 411 State Highway 220, Oxford, NY 13830. Dr. Hover was born November 6, 1922, in Hamlin, PA, the son of Reginald Willis Hover and Viola Mae Cole Hover. He was a graduate of Binghamton North High School, Class of 1941 and Palmer College of Chiropractic, Class of 1964. He was a United States Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific during WWII, worked with the New York State Police for over nine years, achieving the rank of corporal, and also worked with the Chenango County Sheriff's Office for several years. Dr. Hover operated his Chiropractic practice in Norwich from 1964 to 1986 and in Marathon from 1991 to 2001. He was member of Lincklaen Center Seventh-Day Adventist Church, where he served as deacon, elder and head elder and was also a former member of the Norwich Lodge #302 F. & A. M. and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #367. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Brett A. Barvinchack and his sister, Doris V. Miller. Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Vera Jean Hover of Norwich, NY; three daughters, Kathy and Ed Crager of Southern Shores, NC, Pat and Jerry Collier of Norwich, NY and Cindy and Gary Roach of Greene, NY; six grandchildren, Kim and Ted Briggs of Lebanon, PA, Dr. Michael and Gina Barvinchack of Hagerstown, MD, Christopher and Bridget Collier of Tallahassee, FL, Nicholas Collier of Norwich, NY, Brian Roach of Greene, NY and Amanda Collier of Norwich, NY; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
