Julian Hawkins

January 8, 1947 — July 7, 2015

Julian Thomas "Tommy" Hawkins, Jr., 68, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015 Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 10, 2015 at Southwest Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Brooks officiating. Interment will follow at Attapulgus Baptist Church Cemetery with Kyle Medley, Dale Medley, Keith Medley, Jr. McGuffy, Matt Musgrove and Bob Henderson serving as active pallbearers. Clint Beckham, Dee Brock, Jerry Green, Jacky Jackson, Clayton Wilder, and Robert Baty will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mr. Hawkins was born in Decatur County, GA, the son of Julian Thomas Hawkins, Sr. and Perry Lucile Strickland Hawkins. He lived in Bainbridge most of his life. He was a partner in Hawkins Photography and a bus driver with Decatur County Schools. Tommy enjoyed sports, especially baseball, and touched generations of children by photographing them in action. His love for people lead many others to call him "Papa". The smile on his face came directly from loving thoughts of his family. His pride and joy were his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Connie Byrd Hawkins; his children, Deidra A. Hawkins of Attapulgus, Julian T. "Trey" Hawkins, III and his wife, Lea, of Bainbridge, and Joseph Murphy and his wife, Bon, of Kentucky; his grandchildren, Jillian Cale Hawkins and Julian Thomas " Quayde" Hawkins, IV; his siblings, Maxine H. Medley and her husband, Johnny, of Attapulgus and Sharon H. Jackson and her husband, Jacky, of Bainbridge. Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bonnie H. Pennington.
