Julian U. Smith, 83, of Donalsonville, GA, passed away July 8, 2007at Bainbridge Health Care in Bainbridge, GA. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Tired Creek Cemetery near Whigham, GA. VFW Post 4904 will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at Ivey Funeral Home. He graduated West Bainbridge High School in 1941 and was in the US Marine Corps on active duty during WWII where he received the purple heart. Mr. Smith was a postal carrier for the US Postal Service for 35 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the VFW Post 4904, and Disabled American Veterans. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Claudia M. Smith of Donalsonville, GA; a son, J. Allen Smith of Donalsonville, GA; a daughter, Glenda Wistar of Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Betty Jo Ross of Doraville, GA; three grandchildren, Carla Helmstadter, Shana McAfee, and Lyra Seitman; six great grandchildren, Ethan Helmstadter, Chase Helmstadter, Tage Helmstadter, Kolby McAfee, Kayla McAfee, and Evan Seitman.
