Mrs. Kate Oma Day Nichols of Bainbridge died Saturday, January 22, 2011. Services for Mrs. Nichols will be held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 25, at First United Methodist Church of Bainbridge. The Rev. Randy Mosley and the Rev. Melba Washington Andrews will officiate. Interment in Oak City Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, January 24, at Cox-Ware Funeral Home Chapel. Kate Oma Day was born May 11, 1911 in Samson, Alabama to George Robert (Bob) and Mandy Donnia Farris Day. She was married to Paul L. Nichols, who preceded her in death. Kate is survived by her children: Ellen Ross Jennings of Leesburg, Florida; Jimmie Ruth Gurley of Columbus, Georgia; George Robert (Bob) Alford and wife, JoAnne, of St. Simons Island, Georgia; Tommy Farris Alford and wife, Phyllis, of Savannah, Georgia; Freddy Edward Alford and wife, Deana, of Recovery, Georgia, Larry Cullen Nichols of Bainbridge, Georgia and Betty N. Marshall of Valdosta, Georgia; 14 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren. The family would like to recognize the wonderful care-giving of Dorothy Love and Michelle Gray and thank them for the attention given to their mother.
