Katie Jensen McCarty Godwin, 87, of Attapulgus, GA, passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 29, 2008 at Attapulgus Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Bishop and Rev. Jack House officiating. Interment will follow at Attapulgus Cemetery with Bryan Benton, Benjamin Benton, Randy Daniel, Terry Haire, Tommy Haire and Willy Barrentine serving as active pallbearers. Mrs. Godwin was born August 14, 1921 in Attapulgus, GA, the daughter of Martin Jensen and Charity Jones Jensen. She was a homemaker and a member of Attapulgus Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Weyman McCarty and Oscar R. Godwin, her son Jimmy McCarty and her sister Lou Bell. Survivors include her daughter, Diane McCarty Benton and her husband Billy of Cairo, GA; her daughter-in-law, Jeanette M. Pittman of Tallahassee, FL; six grandchildren, Darrell Benton and his wife Shirley, Lorrie Daniel and her husband Randy, Bryan Benton and his wife Melissa, Benjamin Benton, Eddie McCarty and Kim Rhodes; her cousin Doris Jones of Attapulgus, GA; her sisters-in-law, Doris Allen of Quincy, FL, Evelyn McCarty of Widner, GA and Myrtle McCarty of Atlanta, GA; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
