Laverne Ammons Smith, 81, of the Delwood Community, passed away Friday, November 25, 2016.The graveside funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at Delwood Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Pleasant Church Road, Climax, GA 39834.Laverne Ammons was born April 6, 1935 in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Dewey Ammons and Dollie White Ammons. She lived most of her life in the Delwood Community and was a member of Delwood Baptist Church.Laverne was a homemaker which included everything from tending the home to working on the farm. She never shied away from work and taught her children the importance of giving your best effort. Her reward for a hard day's work was to spend a little time fishing on the Flint River. Laverne loved her family and enjoyed family gatherings.Survivors include her sons, Glenn Smith and Terrelle Smith both of Bainbridge, GA; her daughter-in-law, Bonnie Smith, also of Bainbridge; her siblings, Wayne Ammons and his wife, Debbie, of Del Rio, TX, Margerette Williams and her husband, Jack, of Bainbridge, Joyce Scarzella and her husband, Joe, of Waterbury, CT, and Mary Zambiasi and her husband, Chuck, of Minersville, PA; her grandchildren, Amanda Black and her husband, Steve, Glenda Cox and her husband, Brian, Tiffany Livingston and her husband, Frazier, Tara Ann Bates and her husband, Brandon, Sammy Smith and his wife, Cathy, and Clay Smith and his wife, Kasey; and her eight great-grandchildren. Laverne was preceded in death by her husband, Richard S. Smith; her son, Ricky C. Smith; and her siblings, Inez Milan, Betty Burgraff, Gene Ammons and Jimmy Ammons.
