Leonard Clayton

Leonard Clayton (age 83) was called home to our Lord on Thursday, December 7, 2023, after months of failing health. He died peacefully at his home in Whigham, Georgia with his beloved wife and family by his side. Leonard was born on November 2, 1940, in Climax, GA to Rhoda Vea Hall and Wyatt Elias Clayton. He served honorably in the Army, graduated from Saint Leo University, and later retired from Lockhead Martin Corp. Leonard was a wonderful husband and a loving father. His grandboys and great-grandchildren were the light of his life. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lizzie Francis Curby Oliver. He's survived by his loving wife, Minnie Lee Clayton; children, Lanon Clayton of Barnesville, GA, Katherine Clayton of New York, NY; grandchildren Seargent Cyril “Cy” E. Clayton (Doriann) of Überlingen, Germany and Austin Clayton of Skowhegan, Me; great grandchildren Dean, Daxtyn, Donovan, Scarlett, Markus and Magnus; sisters Sarah Dell Dekle of Cairo, GA and Nettie Sue Willis of Whigham, GA; a host of nieces, nephews and other beloved friends and relatives. He will be dearly missed. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us. All are welcome for a memorial service to take place at Cox Funeral Home, 202 South West Street, Bainbridge. GA on Friday, December 15 at 2 p.m. The family would like to thank all the health care professionals from Gentiva Hospice who comforted and cared for him in his last days.
