Mr. Lewis L. Rogers, Jr., age 81, of Cobb, Georgia, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2024, at his son's home in Kathleen, Georgia. Services for Mr. Rogers will be held 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 7, at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Ivey Funeral Home in Bainbridge, Georgia. The Rev. Bob Knight will officiate. Ray Rogers, J. P. Palmer, Hunter Nelms, Britt Rogers, Austin Henson, and Stephen Glover will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 2:00. Mr. Rogers will be interred beside his wife, Minnie, in Oak City Cemetery.
Lewis was born October 2, 1942, in Cordele, Georgia. He was a graduate of Albany High School Class of 1960. After high school, Lewis attended the University of Georgia for two years before transferring to Georgia State University. He earned a BBA degree in 1971. A few years, later he earned his Master’s Degree in Transportation from Georgia State University.
In 1960, Lewis married the love of his life, Minamar Phillips. Together they lived in several cities throughout Georgia including Albany, Columbus, Athens, and Smyrna, before settling in Cobb, Georgia. After a very successful career in the transportation industry, his career started with Ryder Truck Lines and retired with USF Holland. Lewis loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was an avid fan of the Georgia Bulldogs. Lewis was a member of the First Baptist Church in Americus, Georgia.
Lewis Rogers, Jr. was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Minamar “Minnie” Rogers, his daughter, Nancye Henson Rogers, his father Lewis Rogers, Sr., and mother, Nadine Alton Rogers. He is survived by his son, Lewis “Lew” Rogers (Joyce); siblings, Charles Britt Rogers (Ruthie), Carolyn Israel Rogers, and Juli Anne Nowak (Stan); grandchildren, Brittany Rogers Palmer (James “JP”), Lewis Ray Rogers (Shelby), Haley Rogers Nelms (Hunter), Austin Henson (Mallory), Amberleia Henson Glover (Stephen); great-grandchildren, Mallory Rogers, Graycen Rogers, Carson Rogers, Sawyer Helms, Caroline Palmer, Cade Palmer, Lilah Henson, Jonah Glover, Ayden Glover, Caleb Glover, and Eliza Glover; and numerous nieces and nephews.
