Mrs. Lila Jean Dykes Ward, age 83, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2015, at her daughter\\'s home in Cairo, Georgia. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 25, at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Bainbridge, Georgia. The Rev. Mike Brown will be officiating. Interment will follow in Oak City Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service. Lila Jean Dykes Ward was born July 24, 1932, to Dewey B. Dykes, Sr. and Eugenia H. Bryant Dykes. She was born and raised in Bainbridge, Georgia. She graduated from Bainbridge High School. Lila Jean served and performed as the drum major for the Bainbridge High School Marching Band from her freshman through senior year. Mrs. Ward was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bainbridge and their Senior Ladies Sunday School Class. Lila Jean had many hobbies; she was an avid coin collector. She loved to read but animals were her true passion. All animals. She enjoyed watching Animal Planet. Lila Jean Ward will be sorely missed by the family she loved so much. Lila Jean Ward is survived by her children, Sherri Harrell of Cairo, Georgia, Julie Hairr and husband, Robert of Raleigh, North Carolina, Marvin Wells and wife, Shanta of Ocoee, Florida, John Wells and wife, Patricia of Ponta Vedra Beach, Florida, and Charles Ward, Jr. of Lake Seminole, Georgia; grandchildren, Evy Michelle Harrell, Dr. Jonathon D. Wells, and Dr. Jennifer Wells Eaton; great grandchildren, Adelaide Wells, and Boston Wells; and several nephews and a niece. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles Ward, Sr.; and brothers, Dewey Dykes, Jr. and Joseph S. Dykes. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Mrs. Ward's memory to the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society, 1250 Cox Avenue, Bainbridge, Georgia 39819
