Lois Douthit Epperson, 86, of Tallahassee, FL, passed away unexpectedly Monday, February 16, 2009 at Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, FL. The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, February 22, 2009 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be at Greenshade Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday, February 21, 2009 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Lois was born in her mother's family home on September 2, 1922 in Pearson, GA. She was the daughter of Clinton Talmadge Douthit and Melissie Batten Douthit. She grew up in Miami, Florida, and attended Little River High School through 1937. That is when her parents traded their house in Miami for a farm in Decatur County, Georgia, near Fowlstown, due to a hurricane in Miami. Lois graduated from Attapulgus High School and attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA. While living and working in Bainbridge, GA, in 1943, she met and married John L. Epperson, Jr., a Texas boy who was in the US Army and stationed at the Bainbridge Army Air Base. After John's return from his overseas deployment to Japan, they moved to Tallahassee in 1946 to raise a family. Throughout her life in Tallahassee, Lois was a member of the Tallahassee Garden Club, The Woman's Club, Rebel's Club and the Capital City Country Club. She was an avid gardener, an accomplished seamstres, a full-time homemaker and loved to entertain in her home and travel whenever possible. She also worked in both houses of the Florida Legislature. She was a natural beauty and modeled hair and clothing for Alice Melton, the owner of Alice's Beauty Salon, and was always active in all phases of the Tallahassee social community. In addition to her parents, Lois was predeceased by her younger brother, C.T. Douthit, Jr., of Albany, GA, and her husband, John L. Epperson, Jr. Survivors include three sons, Les Epperson of Tallahassee, FL, Ronnie Epperson and his wife Marie and Kirk Epperson, all of Havana, FL; her sister, Mary Ellen Forester of Cairo, GA; one granddaughter, Kylie Elizabeth Epperson of Tallahassee, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
