M. Swicord

Mr. M. J. Swicord, Jr., 86, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Tuesday, February 24, 2009 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 26, 2009 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephen L. Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with Orion Lodge # 8 F. & A. M. serving as active pallbearers. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 25, 2009 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mr. Swicord was born March 1, 1922 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of M. J. Swicord and Winnie Sellers Swicord. He was a graduate of West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1938, served in the United States Air Force during WWII and was a Railroad Conductor for Seaboard Coastline Railroad. He was a member of Orion Lodge #8 F&AM, the Bainbridge Shrine Club, Hasan Shrine Temple and First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Geraldine (Gerry) Eberhart Swicord. Survivors include his son, Mike Swicord of Donalsonville, GA; his daughter, Mary Jane McCully and her husband Bob of Tallahassee, FL; a brother, John Carroll Swicord and his wife Hattie of Carrollton, TX; four grandchildren, Beth Poitevint Lee and her husband Mike, Amy Poitevint Brown and her husband Jerrod, Kellie Folger and her husband Chad and Christie McIvor; and five great-grandchildren, Megan Lee, Connor Folger, Mary Grace Folger, Stacy Lee and Banks Folger.
