Mrs. Marguerite Jones Smallwood, 87, passed away Friday, January 15, 2010 at The Church Home For The Aged in Fort Valley, GA. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, January 17, 2010 at Attapulgus United Methodist Church in Attapulgus, GA with Rev. Lynn Hurley officiating. Interment will be in Attapulgus Cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mrs. Smallwood was born February 22, 1922 in Quitman, GA, the daughter of Benjamin Harris Jones and Floyce Swilley Jones. She was a graduate of Barwick High School, Abraham Baldwin College and Georgia State College for Women. She received her Masters and Education Specialist degrees from Florida State University. She taught at Attapulgus High School for 17 years and retired as assistant supervisor of home economics education with the Georgia Department of Education. In addition to being a member of Methodist churches in Attapulgus, Tifton, and LaGrange, GA, Mrs. Smallwood was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Mary Will Thompson Sunday School Class at First Methodist Church in LaGrange, The Woman's Club of LaGrange, and garden clubs in Tifton and LaGrange. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Smallwood. Survivors include two daughters, Jean Noble of Centerville, GA and Ann Wilder and her husband Perry of LaGrange, GA; a brother, Herbert Jones and his wife Elinor of McDonough, GA; four grandchildren, Shannon (Terry) Wilson of Granite Shoals, TX, Kate (Brian) Schimmel of Guyton, GA, Lee (Caitlin) Wilder of Huntsville, AL, and Jay Noble of Greenville, NC; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob Schimmel, Jason Schimmel, Will Wilson, and Ben Wilson.
