Martha Haire Brown, age 92, passed away on March 21, 2016 in Lexington, SC. She was born on September 22, 1923 in Amsterdam, GA to Ollie Drake Haire and Dallas Edmund Haire. They moved to Bainbridge, GA where she was raised. Martha attended Valdosta State College in Valdosta, GA. When World War II was declared, she got a job at the new Air Force Base in Bainbridge in the office of the commanding officer. When the base was later closed, she transferred to Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, AL where she was employed until 1950, when she married Ellis Brown, and they established a home in Tifton, GA. They bought the Ford Dealership, named it Brown Ford, and it was the Family Business for many years. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. Martha relocated to Alpharetta, GA in 1999 to live with her daughter and son-in-law. She then relocated again with them to Lexington, SC in 2014. She is survived by her daughter, Patti Brown-Jacobs and husband Thomas of Lexington, SC; brother, Dallas Haire and wife Barbara of Marietta, GA; nieces, Susan Haire and Jane Haire; nephew, Ed Haire. The family will hold a private service at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel in Lexington, SC. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 25, 2016, at Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, Georgia. The Rev. Mike Brown will officiate.
