On December 16, 2020, Martha Jane Rogers Henderson, passed away at the age of 83 in Opelika, Alabama. She was a loving wife and a dedicated mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Survivors include her daughter, Dr. Kathryn Henderson, and her grandchildren Kaitlin, Sydney, and Griffin Dumpere, all of Atlanta, GA.Martha Jane was born in Cairo, Georgia, the daughter of James David Rogers and Martha Walker Rogers. She grew up in Blakely, Georgia, working at her parents' five-and-dime store. She attended the Blakely schools, and then graduated from Georgia College in Milledgeville (then known as Georgia State College for Women). After her marriage to Frederick N. Henderson in 1963, she lived happily for many years in Bainbridge, Georgia. She was a devoted member of the First United Method Church and sang in the Chancel Choir for nearly 40 years. She and Fred were loyal supporters of Bainbridge State College (now ABAC), where Fred taught English and later served as Vice-President of Academic Affairs and Dean of the Faculty. After his death, Martha continue to volunteer her time as a Bainbridge State College Ambassador. Caring for her family, friends and church family was the joy of her heart. She always had a kind word to say and loved to bake for her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her incredible 14 layer chocolate cake.While we will miss Martha Jane's loving kindness, we rejoice that she is worshipping her Savior face to face and is reunited with her beloved husband, Fred, and her son, Nathan. A graveside memorial service will take place at 2 PM on January 23, 2021, at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Music Fund at First United Methodist Church, PO Box 541, Bainbridge, Georgia 39819. Frederick-Dean Funeral Home of Opelika, AL is assisting the family with arrangements.
