Mary Lavaer Burnum was born October 12, 1937 in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Byron and Maude Hughes Burnum. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. Mary married Roy C. Dahl, Jr. in 1961 and they made their home in southwest Georgia except for the Army years in Texas, Oklahoma, Arizona and Virginia. Mary had a way with animals. Her cat, Leo, was held in high regard even while Mary was birdwatching. She kept herself sharp with brain games, word puzzles and shooting the grandchildren with water guns. Even with an occasional loss in the water gun war, Mary's grandchildren enjoyed her constant teasing. Survivors include her son, Thomas Dahl and his wife, Susan, of Bainbridge, GA; her grandchildren, Becky and Chris; and her great-grandchildren, Austin, Destiny, Brandon, Hunter, Bailey, Ben and Whitley. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Roy C. Dahl, Jr.; and her brother and sister.
