Mary Elizabeth Johns Potter, 101, of Chattahoochee, FL, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010 at Signature Health Care at the Courtyard in Mariana, FL. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. EDT Thursday, April 1, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee, FL with Rev. Marty Smith and Rev. Barry Cottle officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, near Chattahoochee, FL. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. EDT at First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee. Mary Lizzie was born March 26, 1909 in the Recovery Community near Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Leroy Johns and Mattie Wilson Johns. She was a retired food service supervisor with Florida State Hospital, a homemaker, and a member of First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee where she was active in the 39ers Choir. She was a member of the Order of the Easter Star Washington Chapter 43 in Quincy, FL. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Barnes Potter, her daughter, Katherine Jeannett Poindexter, her sister, Varou Holt, and three brothers, Alton Johns, Alvin Johns, and Paul Johns. Survivors include her son, William E. "Eddie" Potter and his wife Carol of Chattahoochee, FL; four daughters, Doris Eugenia Pinson and her husband Sterling of St. Augustine, FL, Jacquelyn Bennett of Greenwood, FL, Gwendolyn (Gwendy) Ford and her husband John of Malone, FL, and Gloria Elizabeth Alday and her husband Norton of San Antonio, TX; her brother, Wilson Johns of Winterville, GA; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
