Mrs. Mattie Grubbs-Cato, age 94, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013, at her home in Eldorendo, Georgia. Services for Mrs. Grubbs-Cato will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Bainbridge. Rev. David Grubbs and Rev. Scott Messer will be officiating. Ricky Grubbs, David Taylor, Jr., Thomas Brandon Taylor, Donald Grubbs, Jr., David Grubbs, Jr., Danny Grubbs, Jr., Rusty Brogdon, Dusty Brogdon, Bobby Grubbs, Jr., and Joe Grubbs, III will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, May 6, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Bainbridge, Ga. Mattie Mae Lewis was born April 28, 1919 in Early County, Georgia, to Thomas William Lewis and Mattie Merkison Lewis. Mattie loved to fish and loved to play Bingo. When her health allowed, she was a hard-working member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the V.F.W. Mrs. Grubbs-Cato will be sorely missed by the children and grandchildren she loved so much. She was truly dedicated to her family. Mrs. Grubbs-Cato was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Brown Grubbs, Sr. and Leslie Cato. Surviving Mrs. Grubbs-Cato are her children, Mary Williams and husband, Henry of Blakely, Georgia, Debra Mills and husband, Herman of Climax, Georgia, Rita Furney and husband, Rawleigh, Marion Grubbs and wife, Lennis, Bobby Grubbs and wife, Jane, Donald Grubbs, Jacky Grubbs and wife, Diane, all of Eldorendo, David Grubbs and wife, Linda of Attapulgus, and Joe Grubbs of Eldorendo; daughter-in-law, Gail Grubbs of Eldorendo; 31 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and many great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Danny Grubbs. The family would like to thank the employees of Flint River Hospice and Dr. J. Sydney Cochran for their care, support, and prayers over the past months.
