Mrs. Mavis Elizabeth Holloway Murkerson Williams passed away on December 26, 2024 in Bainbridge, Georgia. Services for Mrs. Williams will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025 at Calvary Baptist Church in Bainbridge with Rev. Chad Cooper, and Rev. Al Murkerson, Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. She will be privately interred at Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge. Serving as active pallbearers will be Paxton Poitevint, Jay Murkerson, Dax Bryan, Rodney Renfroe, Josh Horne, Bryce Murkerson, and Connor Poitevint. Honorary pallbearers will be Cody Simons, Ethan Benton, Brandon Horne, Tyler Horne, Christopher Cooper, Maddox Murkerson, Judson Murkerson, Heath Sandlin, Hunter Horne, Britt Williams, and Scott Williams.
Mavis Elizabeth Holloway was born on November 21, 1930 in Bainbridge to the late Marion Cecil Holloway and Ouida Ward Holloway. On March 21, 1947, she married Norman Murkerson who passed away on November 7, 1953. On December 23, 1954, she married Norwood Williams.
“Ms.” Mavis was a devoted Christian lady who loved the Lord. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church since 1959 where she served in many capacities over the years. She was a member of the Winsome Sunday School Class and the Calvary Baptist choir. She taught the 4 and 5 year old Sunday School Class for 14 years, was chairman of the Baptismal Committee, and served on the Fellowship Committee.
She was a member of the YMCA and volunteered at Regional Therapy and the Alzheimer’s Caregivers Association.
She was lovingly known to her loved ones as “Nana” and deeply loved her family. “Ms.” Mavis was especially famous for her cakes especially her caramel cakes as well as her turkey steak. She really enjoyed cooking and having her family with her on the holidays. She will be missed by all.
“Ms.” Mavis is survived by her children, Norry Williams of Atlanta, Georgia, Jerry and Cecilia Murkerson of Hawkinsville, Georgia, Lindy Murkerson of Bainbridge, and Gaye Murkerson and June Bryan both of Albany, Georgia. She is also survived by her eleven grandchildren, Scott and Sharon Williams , Britt and Jill Williams, Laura and Josh Horne, Jay and Lesley Murkerson, Al, Jr. and Amanda Murkerson, Dia and Chad Cooper, Heath and Anita Sandlin, Amber and Rodney Renfroe, Paxton and Stephanie Poitevint, Dax Bryan; and Megan McClennon; her 18 great-grandchildren, Kylie, Bree, Hunter, Brandon, Tyler, Harley, Courtney, Chris, Maddox, Judson, Bryce, Jenny Grace, Ansley, Brooke, Addison, Kate, Connor, and Katie; and her great-great grandchildren Freya, D.J., Nash, Navy and Landon.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Al Murkerson, Sr., her brothers Verbon Holloway and Marion Holloway, Jr. and her sister, Myra Mitchell.
