Ms. Melanie Latrell Wood, 33, of Donalsonville, GA, passed away Friday, December 19, 2008 from injuries received in an automobile accident. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 in the chapel of Wainwright-Parlor Funeral Home in Hazlehurst, GA, with Rev. Stephen L. Webb officiating. Interment will follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday, December 21, 2008 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Wainwright-Parlor Funeral Home. Melanie was born January 1, 1975 in Coffee County, GA, the daughter of James Roger Wood and Joyce C. Wood. She resided in Jeff Davis County prior to moving to Donalsonville and was an investigator for the Decatur County Sheriff's Office since April 2007. She was a member of the Decatur County SWAT Team, the Decatur County Board of DFACS, which monitors the welfare of children of Decatur County, and was nominated employee of the year for 2008. She was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include her mother, Joyce C. Wood of Hazlehurst, GA; her brothers, James Roger Wood, Jr. and Mitchell Lee Wood, both of Hazlehurst, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
