Mrs. Mildred Whitaker Gordon, age 82, of Bainbridge, passed away early Sunday, September 02, 2012, at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. Services for Mrs. Gordon will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 4, 2012, at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Bruce Gordon will be officiating. The interment will be held at Roselawn Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 6:00-8:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, beginning at 10:00. Mildred Whitaker was born February 16, 1930 in Miller County, Georgia to Wyatt and Chloe Bell Dean Whitaker. She married Harrison Gordon. Their marriage lasted 51 years, until his death. She was a homemaker and mother. Mrs. Gordon has lived in Bainbridge for nearly 60 years. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church. Mildred Gordon is survived by her children, Janice Gordon Mock of Tallahassee, Florida, Carol Umbach of Bainbridge, Georgia, Clayton Gordon of Moultrie, Georgia, Bruce Gordon and wife, Vicki of Albany, Georgia, Vicky Gordon Newton of Bainbridge, Georgia, and Julie Scarboro and husband, Lee of Tallahassee, Florida; sisters and brothers, Nina Pickren and husband, C.L. of Colquitt, Georgia, Melvin Whitaker and wife, Glenda of Bainbridge, Elisha Whitaker and wife, Sue of Leesburg, Georgia, Lester Whitaker and wife, Becky of Moultrie, and Bill Whitaker and wife, Debbie of Sylvester, Georgia; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Delma Hoover; brothers, Lynwood and Irving Whitaker; and son-in-law, Sam Mock, Sr.
