Mildred Wakeland

Mrs. Mildred Jean Wakeland, age 83, passed away early Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at her home in Bainbridge, Georgia. Mildred was born January 4, 1934 in Iowa City, Iowa. She grew up in Washington, Iowa, living mostly with her grandmother, Ethel. As a teen she moved to Moline, Illinois with her mother, Bernice, and step-father, Elmer Congdon. At 13, she met the love of her life, John Thomas Wakeland. On February 8, 1950, they married and started their life together. In 1963 the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona. After John's death, Mildred moved to Bainbridge. She was a homemaker and mother. Mildred was all about her family. She loved to cook and share her good food with her loved ones. Mildred also loved to watch her Westerns. Mildred Wakeland will be greatly missed by the family she loved so very much. Mildred Wakeland is survived by her children, John Wakeland of Bainbridge, Sharyl Bryant and husband, Gator of Bainbridge, Sue Lindbald and husband, Paul of Moline, Illinois, and Jo Wakeland and husband, Doug of Harrod, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, and her special, 4-legged, bedside buddy, Sophie.
