Miriam Powell Brooks, 85, of Dallas, TX and formerly of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Friday, May 23, 2008 at Hillcrest House in Dallas, TX. The graveside funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Oak City Cemetery with Rev. Paul Medley officiating. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mrs. Brooks was born August 20, 1922 in Cyrene, GA, the daughter of Lamar and Cleta Powell. The oldest of 3 sisters, she grew up in Bainbridge, GA keeping many lifelong friends. She met and married Gordon Brooks on December 20, 1941 and embarked on a highly mobile Air Force life from Montgomery, AL to New Delhi, India to Nebraska and Germany. Mimi was the model Air Force Officer wife maintaining and moving their home and sons around the world. She was a beloved daughter, sister and wife and an awesome mother, grandmother and mother-in-law. She was preceded in death by her husband, James G. Brooks, a sister, Ruth, and an infant son. Mrs. Brooks was a member of First Baptist Church. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law; James G. Brooks, Jr. and wife, Barbara of Dallas, TX, Lamar Powell Brooks and wife, Kristi of Idaho; daughter-in-law, Carol Brooks; grandchildren, James Gordon Brooks III and wife, Allison, Elizabeth Lee Brooks, Christopher Charles Brooks and wife, Ashley, Amanda Lauren Brooks, Julie Ann Brooks and William Tyler Brooks; great grandchildren, James Gordon Brooks IV and Eloise Ann Brooks; much loved sister and brother-in-law, Jack and Laurene Alfandre and their family.
