Caribou, ME - Nancy Marie Merchant, 65, died February 26, 2011 following a brief illness, with her family by her side. She was born on February 21, 1946 in Stockholm, Maine. The daughter of Alphonse and Edwina Peters, Nancy was raised in Presque Isle. In 1962, she married Leon Merchant and moved to Caribou, where together they raised 5 children and have made their home for 48 years. Nancy cherished the time spent with her family, whether at home, at Nana and Dada's camp, or up on the woods on their property. Nancy was employed at Save-A-Lot since the opening of the store in Caribou. She leaves behind her husband Leon; daughter and son-in-law Kathryn and John Lyons, and grandson Richard; daughter and son-in-law Patty and Kent Cousins, granddaughters Heather and Logan, and great-granddaughters Keegan and Brooklyn; daughter Lisa, granddaughter Kilee, great-granddaughter Zoe; daughter and son-in-law Sheila and Mitchell Green, grandsons Joshua and Dustin, granddaughter Emma, and great-grandson Issac; and son and daughter-in-law Lee and Kim Merchant, grandsons Brock and Blake. Friends may call on Wednesday, March 2 from 6-8 p.m. at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover Street, Caribou. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 10 a.m. at Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home with the Rev. Aaron Damboise officiating.
