Naomi Carter

Naomi Carter, age 90, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Memorial Manor, in Bainbridge, Georgia. A funeral service will be held in the Cadwell Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home, Saturday, August 2nd at 11:00am, followed by interment in the Memorial Garden of St. John’s Episcopal Church. The Very Reverend Leslie Dellenbarger, will officiate, assisted by The Archdeacon Yvette Owens and The Reverend Deacon Scott Mithen.

Naomi was born to Everett Eugene and Virginia Johns Carter in Valdosta, GA. They moved to Chiefland, FL when she was age 2. Naomi graduated from Chiefland High School in 1952. In 1975, she completed an Associate of Art degree from Florida Junior College in Jacksonville, Florida with an Art major, in 1980 completed a Bachelor’s degree from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas with an Art & Theater major, and in 1988 completed a Master of Library Science at Florida State University. She was a long-time member of St. John’s Episcopal Church. Naomi worked and retired as a librarian at Bainbridge College.

Naomi is survived by her children, Beth & Scott Mithen, Lynn Elliott & Chris Sammelmann, Charles & Keri Elliott, and Angela Elliott; grandchildren, Tommy Mithen, Ginny & Tommy Yancey, Brian Elliott, Chelsea Elliott & James Dyke, Christopher Sammelmann, Justin Elliott, Morgan Yunick, and Stephen Sammelmann; great-grandchildren, Damien Elliott, Elliott Yancey, Madison Elliott, Breckin Yancey, Carter Mithen, Dominic Yancey, Roman Yunick, Summer Guenther, and Tallulah Dyke; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Charles B. Elliott, Sr.; parents, Everett & Virginia Carter; son, Richard Carter Elliott, and sister-in-law, Betty Ann Carter.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. John’s Episcopal Church, 516 E. Broughton Street, Bainbridge, Georgia 39817.
