Nathan Holt

July 7, 1931 — July 3, 2015

Mr. Nathan Vance Holt, Sr. passed away Friday, July 3, 2015, in Tampa, Florida one week before his 84th birthday. Services will be held Sunday, July 12, 2015, 3:00 pm, at Cox Funeral Home. Rev. David A. Hamm, S.T. will be officiating. Interment, with military honor guard, will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Climax, Georgia. The family will receive friends on Saturday, 6:00-8:00 p.m., at Cox Funeral Home. Raised in Climax, GA, he was the elder son of George Washington Holt and Ollie Phillips Holt. Nathan joined the US Navy at age 17 and retired as Chief Petty Officer after 22 years of dedicated service. He then earned a Bachelor\\'s Degree in Accounting from Valdosta State University. He was proud to have passed all sections of the CPA exam on the first try. He and his wife, Barbara Benefield Holt, permanently relocated to Tampa, FL in 1983. Nathan was a devoted husband to Barbara, who passed away in 2013 after 51 years of marriage. He is survived by three children, Nathan Vance Holt, Jr. (and wife Anne Marea Griffin), Timothy Phillips Holt, and Natalie Holt Cross, as well as three grandchildren, Tracy Elizabeth Swicord Blanchard (and husband Matthew), Rebecca Lenaneo Griffin Holt, and Kelly Elizabeth Cross. He was blessed with one great-grandchild, Sean Michael Hanley. He is also survived by his two siblings, George Ivey Holt (and wife Rena) and Nancy Holt Kassay (and husband Steve). An intelligent and thoughtful man, Nathan never met a crossword puzzle he couldn\\'t master, a Scrabble game he couldn\\'t win or a bank account he couldn\\'t balance to the penny. His sense of personal honor and strong work ethic serve as an inspiration to his children.
