Nell Thompson Hendley, 87, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Thursday, March 29, 2012 at Seminole Manor Nursing Home. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 2, 2012 at Morningside Baptist Church with Rev. Warren Fox and Dr. Austin L. Phillips officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens with Clay Harrell, George Chambers, Rick Ragan, Joey Thompson, Jimmy Grimes, Isaac Thompson, and Kenny Whitaker serving as active pallbearers. Mrs. Hendley was born February 6, 1925 in Brinson, GA, the daughter of James Mitchell "Jim" Thompson and Rachel Bailey Thompson. She was a graduate of Faceville High School, Class of 1942, and taught kindergarten at Baell's Kindergarten for 15 years. In 1971 she founded the kindergarten at Morningside Baptist Church and retired in 1987. She continued working in elementary education as a substitute teacher for the Decatur County School System. Mrs. Hendley was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Gray Ladies, a member of Morningside Baptist Church where she was a member of the Dorcas Sunday School Class, served in the choir, and tended the nursery. She loved working in her yard and baking for her friends. Survivors include her daughters, Sandra Harrell and her husband, Tommy, of Bainbridge, GA, and Gloria Reeves and her husband, Tom, of Bainbridge, GA; her brothers, Joe Thompson of Ormond Beach, FL, and Edward Thompson of Bainbridge, GA; her grandchildren, Amy Reeves Whitaker of Smyrna, GA, Clay Harrell of Bainbridge, GA, and Candi Harrell Chambers of Carrollton, GA; her great-grandchildren, Claley Harrell of Cairo, GA, Kaleb Chambers of Carrollton, GA, and Taylor Chambers of Carrollton, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. W. Hendley.
