Nelson Barber, 76, of Climax, GA, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Archbold Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Poppell, Rev. Devid Rich, and Rev. David Grubbs officiating, and will conclude in the chapel. Interment will be at Cedar Grove Cemetery near Climax, GA. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the chapel. He retired from the maintenance department at Engelhard Corporation and was a member of Climax Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Merita Eakin Barber of Climax, GA; his daughters, Kaye Clark and her husband, Jason, of Climax, GA, Joyce Day and her husband, Terry, of Bainbridge, GA, Becky Bullock of Georgetown, GA, and Ann Vulgamore and her husband, Don, of Climax, GA; his sons, John Barber and his wife, Elise, of Climax, GA, Tony Barber of Bainbridge, GA, and L. W. Eakin of Panama City, FL; his brother, William Lee Barber and his wife, Virgie, of Bainbridge, GA; his sisters, Sara Bellflower of Bainbridge, GA, Juanita Talbert and her husband, Dennis, of Bainbridge, GA, and Mildred Sapp of Valdosta, GA; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Ellie Eakin, his daughter-in-law, Kaye Rich Barber, his brothers, Evans Barber and Leonard Barber, and his sisters, Adell Whiddon, Irene Spooner, Jane Spooner, and Nell Smith.
