Nelson Lewis, 66, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Saturday, June 27, 2009 at Donalsonville Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jack Cowart officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with J. L. Ward, Dooly Powell, Harold Pitts, James Register, Kenny Stavely, and Eddie Polk serving as active pallbearers. Nelson was born January 13, 1943 in Husser, LA, the son of Marion Lewis and Jennie Populus Lewis. He graduated from Loranger High School and was a U.S. Marines veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in the Georgia National Guard and was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Donalsonville, GA, Orion Lodge # 8 F. & A. M., Hasan Shrine Temple, and Bainbridge Shrine Club. He was an automobile mechanic and the owner of Mr. Fix It. He retired from the maintenance department of Memorial Hospital and Manor. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Allen. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Lynne McDonald Lewis of Bainbridge, GA; his son, Rev. Tucker A. Lewis and his wife Lori of Jesup, GA; two daughters, Suzanne Lambert and her husband John of Bainbridge, GA and Tara Knowles and her husband Kenny of Donalsonville, GA; two brothers, Welton Lewis and Herbert Lewis, both of Loranger, LA; and eleven grandchildren, Aaron Chaney, Jeremi Chaney, Courtney Rivera, Maria Sulyn Carter, Charlotte Lewis, Rachel Lewis, Katie Carter, Allyson Leigh Carter, T. J. Lewis, Katy Knowles and Manuel Rivera; and several in-laws, neices and nephews.
