Oscar Jackson

Oscar D. Jackson, Sr., 88, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Bainbridge Healthcare and Rehab. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Mosley officiating. Dr. Jackson was born November 20, 1926 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Robert Wright Jackson and Kate Hester Dunwody Jackson. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Navy as a radioman during World War II. Dr. Jackson attended Emory, Florida State University and University of Maryland Dental School. He followed his father's footsteps, practicing dentistry for 51 years. An active member of Bainbridge United Methodist Church, Dr. Jackson was a life-long supporter of the community he loved. He was involved in numerous community developments including helping with initiatives to bring business, industry, and a new jail to Bainbridge. Serving on the Governor's Advisory Committee on water issues, he spent countless hours attending meetings on behalf of protecting South Georgia's water resources. He loved tennis, lettering at all of the colleges he attended. Dr. Jackson was best known as a friendly character who loved to banter with anyone he encountered, never meeting a stranger. He was widely known as a "project man." His projects included ham radio, electronics, his catfish pond, Halloween shows, and creative gags for people's birthdays. Survivors include his wife, Betty Nichols Hinson Jackson of Bainbridge, GA; his sons, Dr. Oscar D. Jackson, Jr. and his wife Vickie Kelly Jackson of Thomasville, GA, Alan D. Jackson of Thomasville, GA, and daughter, Amy J. Price and her husband Charles D. (Bert) Price, Jr of Tallahassee, FL, his stepsons, Ronald E. (Ronnie) Hinson, II and his wife Beth G. Hinson of Dallas, GA, and H. Marlowe Hinson of Brunswick, GA, and daughter-in-law, Shelly W. Hinson. Survivors also include sixteen grandchildren, Oscar (Trey) D. Jackson, Kate J. Harden, Kelly D. Jackson, Hannah D. Jackson, Danielle D. Price, Charles D. Price, III, Janna H. Edwards, Meghan H. Deese, Ronald E. (Ronnie) Hinson, III, Kennan N. Hinson, Josie L. Hinson, H. Marlowe (Ty) Hinson, Jr, Jacob G. (Jake) Hinson, Walker C. (Cole) Hinson, Jack H. Hinson, Marlee G. Hinson, and seven great-grandchildren. Dr. Jackson was preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Roberson Jackson and step-son , John G. Hinson.
