Paul Edwin Shingler, Jr., 68, died Friday, June 18, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 21, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church in Bainbridge, GA with Dr. Gerald A. Little officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 7067, Bainbridge, GA 39818. Online visitors may sign the register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Born in Bainbridge, Georgia, he was raised in Donalsonville, Georgia, by his parents, Paul E. Shingler, Sr., and Elsie Martin Shingler. He was a graduate of Seminole County High School, where he was a Star Student, and the University of Georgia. From 1966-1985, he was Dealer Principle-President of Shingler Motors, Inc., a General Motors Dealership, where customers came from all over to buy vehicles from 'Crazy Ed.' From 1985 until his death, he was an independent estate, financial, and insurance practitioner. He was an Ordained Deacon and Elder (PCUSA); President of Rotary International, Bainbridge, Georgia; President of the Committee 100 for Industry; President and Board Chairman of the American Cancer Society; Zone, Region & National Dealer Council, Pontiac Motor Division; and Zone Dealer Council, GMC Truck Division. An Eagle Scout, he was a strong advocate of scouting, an activity in which he actively participated for 38 years through the Suwanee River & Atlanta Councils. A loyal follower and fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, he was President and Co-founder of the Deep South Georgia Bulldog Club. A licensed pilot, he loved flying and knew all airplanes by make and model. His proudest accomplishment was his family. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Herring Shingler; daughter and son-in-law, Mary Margaret and Charles Douglass Hyatt of Myrtle Beach; son and daughter-in-law, Sara Louise and Paul Edwin Shingler, III, of Atlanta, Georgia; sister and brother-in-law, Susan Shingler and Wallace Long Hambrick of Lawrenceville, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, Harris Martin and Susie Shingler of Donalsonville, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, Leon Theodore and Paula Shingler of Donalsonville, Georgia; mother-in-law, Myrle Jordan Herring and the entire Herring family of Bainbridge, Georgia; adored grandsons, his 'Little Buddies,' Charles Manning and Hughes Shingler Hyatt of Myrtle Beach, and his 'Little Fella' on the way; and many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
