Mr. Preston Gordon (Gordy) Pope, Jr. passed away Friday, January 11, 2013, at his home in Bainbridge, Georgia. Services for Mr. Pope will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 14, 2013, at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. David Grubbs will be officiating. Interment will follow in Brinson Cemetery. Russell Pope, Shane Pope, Darryl Pope, DeWayne Sellars, Michael Logue and Cody Pendergast will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 13, 2013, 4:00-6:00 p.m. at Cox Funeral Home Chapel. Preston Gordon (Gordy) Pope, Jr. was born February 4, 1952 in Bainbridge, Georgia to Preston Gordon Pope, Sr. and Grace Humphrey Pope. Gordy was a truck driver. He drove 18 years for Schnitzer. A Viet Nam veteran, Mr. Pope served in the United States Army. Gordy Pope was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. His family described him as a great daddy and granddad. His wife said he was a wonderful husband. Gordy was a straight "shooter" ; he called it like he saw it. He was a great friend to many. Preston Gordon Pope, Jr. is survived by his wife, Yvonne Pope of Bainbridge; children, Vanessa Trawick and husband, Todd of Warner Robbins, Georgia, and Ashley Pope and wife, Hollen of Ball Ground, Georgia; brother, Wallace Pope and wife, Gail of Brinson, Georgia; sisters, Janice Brockmeier and husband, Jerry of Bradenton, Florida and Verna Bass and husband, Ricky of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina; grandchildren, Sage and Savannah Cumbie of Warner Robbins and Preston Gunnar Pope of Ball Ground; step-children, Sandee McLendon and husband, Phillip of Cairo, Georgia and Susan Elkins of Cairo; step-grandchildren, Jessica Joiner, B.J. Joiner, Cody Pendergast and Taylor Elkins; step-great-grandchildren, Luke, Riley and Sky. Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Pope's name to the American Cancer Society, 323 Pine Avenue, Albany, Georgia 31701
