Robert E. Jeffries, 83, of Climax, GA, formerly of Pensacola, FL, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017.The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Harold Burrell officiating. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.Robert Eugene Jeffries was born June 17, 1933 in New Albany, Indiana, the son of Oval Jeffries and Bonnetta Heck Jeffries. He served his country in the Army National Guard and spent many years as a construction supervisor with Ponderosa Builders. Robert married Mary Elizabeth Leist in June 1953. Robert lived the last 25 years in the Climax Community and was of Baptist faith.Robert was an outdoorsman who loved fishing and hunting squirrels or rabbits. He could do most anything with his hands and used this gift to craft custom furniture. Robert's children and grandchildren brought him the most joy and he enjoyed sharing stories and memories any chance he got. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary E. Jeffries; his children, Richard Lee Jeffries of Greenville, SC and Sandra Nelson and her husband, Raymond, of Pensacola, FL; his sister, Mary Jane Dunn and her husband, Ronnie, of New Albany, IN; his six grandchildren, Michael, Christian, Mary Anne, Ryan, Paul, and Robert; his nine great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents.
