Roy Ray, 78, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at his residence. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2008 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Medley officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, July 13, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wiregrass Hospice, 432 E. Shotwell St., Bainbridge, GA 39819 or First Baptist Church, 401 E. Shotwell St., Bainbridge, GA 39817. Mr. Ray was born March 25, 1930 in Greenville, South Carolina, the son of Vernon Ray and Julia Reynolds Ray. He owned and operated Ray's Appliance and was a member of First Baptist Church. Mr. Ray was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family and pets. He enjoyed traveling cross country with his wife and visiting family during these trips. Mr. Ray also had a great love for music and was a member of the Steel Guitar Association. He was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Ray and Stanley Ray. Survivors include his wife of thirty-six years, Betty Parker Ray; his son, Mark Benito and his wife Sally of San Diego, CA; two daughters, Carol Miller and her husband Eddie of Jacksonville, FL and Leigh Ann Benito of San Diego, CA; five grandchildren, Katy and Peter Benito both of San Diego, CA and Marissa, Kyle and Cole Miller all of Jacksonville, FL; three brothers, William Ray, Billy Ray and Dale Ray all of South Carolina; and three sisters, Frances Edwards, Carolyn Wardlaw and Sandra Brake all of South Carolina.
