Sam Howell

Sam N. Howell, 56, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Monday, January 14, 2008 at Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2008 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Medley and Rev. Jean Watson officiating. Interment will follow at West Bainbridge Cemetery with Tuffy Nussbaum, Rusty Davis, Sean Hader, Edward Venisee, Robert Givens, Bob Rich, Stuart Griffin and Matt Palmer serving as active pallbearers. The Tuesday Night Supper Club, Sunday afternoon Golf Pals and Bainbridge High School Class of 1969 will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends Tuesday, January 15, 2008 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Sam was born February 27, 1951 in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Neil Franklin Howell and Vernice Copeland Howell. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1969, worked for Southern Concrete Co. for many years, and was the owner of Sam Howell Construction Co. He was a member of Bainbridge Country Club where he served on the Board of Directors for many years, a member of West Bainbridge Baptist Church, Bainbridge Decatur County Humane Society, Bainbridge Decatur County Chamber of Commerce, and was a Past President of the Deep Dixie Horse Association. He was an avid golfer and he loved animals. Survivors include his wife, Kathy Salter Howell, of Bainbridge, GA; a daughter, Katie Leigh Ward of Bainbridge, GA; 1 brother, Tommie Howell (Amy) of Bainbridge, GA; 1 sister, Carol Lewis (Chuck) of Bainbridge, GA; his mother, Vernice Copeland Howell of Bainbridge, GA; and four nephews, Bryce Howell, Brock Gannon Howell, Brannan Fagan, and Blake Fagan, all of Bainbridge, GA.
