Sandra Maxine Maxwell was born March 25, 1947, in Colquitt County, Georgia, to Clifford Maxwell and Alberta Barwick Maxwell. Maxine and her 11 siblings grew up near Climax, Georgia and Maxine graduated from Climax High School’s class of 1965. She married the love of her life, William (Bill) F. Johnson, the next year. She and Bill shared life and raised their three children together for the next 52 years, until his death in 2018. Maxine played basketball in high school and loved to watch sports, any sport. She was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and Falcons, UGA Dawgs and Bainbridge Bearcats. Fishing, bowling, card games, and Bingo were things she enjoyed. She loved boiled peanuts and scratch-off lottery tickets. She was a wonderful cook and held every family gathering at her house, this meant every holiday or opportunity to gather. Maxine loved feeding all those folks and having her large family around her. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved to follow their school activities and watch them play. She made the best buttermilk biscuits in the world and would not share the recipe with even those closest to her. Maxine was a member of Beulah Thomas Church. A much-loved sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she will be deeply missed.

Maxine is survived by her children, Sandra Danette Pollock (Craig) of Hahira, Georgia, Deborah Alicia Haywood (Charlie) of Bainbridge, and William Bradley (Brad) Johnson of Bainbridge; her sisters, Susie Jeanette Cook of Tallahassee and Brenda Dale Barry (Skip) of Longmont, Colorado; grandchildren, Jessica Nicole Matthews (Chad), Ashlee Danette Pollock, Victoria Lynn Taylor (Cory), Kristin Leigh Robinson (Jeremy), and Robynann Marie Johnson; great-grandchildren, Jayce Olen Rylee, Keighlynn, Reese Rylee, Alayna Nichole Matthews, Haven Rayne Taylor, Stetson Rhett Matthews, Carson Neal Robinson, Parker Lee Robinson, and Sadie Jayne Matthews; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, siblings, Clifford Bronwood Maxwell, Ralph Deloyd Maxwell, Donald Edward Maxwell, unnamed baby, Dennis Wayne Maxwell, Roger Leon Maxwell, Albert Burnett Maxwell, Velna Montine Toellner and Josephine Rebbeca Rose.

The family will not be gathering at a central location during this time of bereavement and invite their friends to attend a visitation at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox-Ivey Funeral Home on Tuesday evening, 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
