Sara Bellflower

June 23, 1920 — May 16, 2020

Sara Barber Bellflower, 99, of the Bethany Community, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2020. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, a private graveside funeral service will be held at Mt. Gilead Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. David Grubbs officiating. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Sara Louise Barber was born June 23, 1920 in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Bennett and Vada Nichols Barber. She married Wilford "Son" Bellflower and they made their home in the Bethany Community. Sara worked for Williamson-Dickie until her retirement and was a member of Mt. Gilead Free Will Baptist Church. As a child of the Great Depression, Sara had the gift of perseverance and a strong work ethic. She could take what many would consider nothing and make anything. Her beautiful yard was certainly a result of her hard work and she enjoyed every minute working outside in her flower garden. Sara's strong will and love for the Lord brought her through many trials, including recovering from a car accident and doctors telling her she would never walk again. She saw the good in everyone and nurtured those who needed a little extra love. Conversation and food (Sara's love language) proved to be a balm that could soothe most any soul. Sara lead by example and was a great blessing to her children. Survivors include her children, Carolyn Adkins of Fountain, FL; Sarah & James Glass of Greenville, FL, Vesper & Quinton Miller of Madison, AL, and Linda & Mike Knight of Bainbridge, GA; her siblings, William & Virgie Barber of Brinson, GA and Juanita & Dennis Talbert of Middletown, VA; her grandchildren, Maria, Josh, Jody, Al, Jeff, Jake, Jock, Darin, Ray, Kay, Lamar, Sharon, Buddy, Karen, William, Steven, Christopher, and Kristen; and numerous great-, great-great-, and great-great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Sara was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Josey; and her siblings, Mildred Sapp, Leonard Barber, Evans Barber, Jane Spooner, Irene Spooner, Nelson Barber, Adel Tharpe, and Nell Nix.
