\\Mr. Shelton Lavon Newsome, age 77, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012, at his home in Bainbridge. Services for Mr. Newsome will be held Wednesday, November 21, 2012, 2:00 p.m., graveside, at Oak City Cemetery. Pastor Rawleigh Furney will officiate. The family will receive friends at Cox Funeral Home, 12:30 - 1:30, before the service on Wednesday. Shelton Lavon Newsome was born March 31, 1935, in Clark County, Mississippi, to Tolly Clarence Newsome and Lettie Mosly Newsome. He worked as a crew foreman for the Georgia Department of Transportation and served in the National Guard. Mr. Newsome was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church. He was a God-fearing man, who loved his church. Shelton served as a volunteer for the Bainbridge/Decatur County Fire and Rescue. He was a member of Orion Lodge #8 and the Bainbridge Shrine Club. Shelton loved to sit and drink coffee and talk. He also enjoyed watching the birds outside his window. Shelton Lavon Newsome is survived by his daughter, Shelby L. Newsome Sarmiento; son, Kenneth Lavon Newsome and wife Wanda; brother, Clyde Newsome; sister, Jewel Mosely; grandchildren, Cynthia Natasha Poole, Shelley Poole Hicks, Jeffrey Lavon Newsome, and Kenneth James Newsome; 7 great-grandchildren, all from Bainbridge; stepchildren, Robert Kirk Tindell, Robert Edward Tindell, and Naomi Tindell Blanchard; and 5 step grandchildren, also all from Bainbridge.
