Spencer P Davis, 87, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013 at Riverside Place. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 13, 2013 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Shepard and Rev. Paul Medley officiating. Interment will be at Oak City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Davis-Williams Scholarship Fund; Gentiva Hospice, 432 E. Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA 39819; or a charity of your choice. Mr. Davis was born February 5, 1926 in Dido, LA, the son of John Henry Davis and Frances Gibson Davis. He was a graduate of Bay High School, earned a bachelors degree from Troy State, and earned a masters degree from Florida State University. Mr. Davis was a teacher, coach, and principal in Bainbridge and served as superintendent of Americus City School System. He was a member of First Baptist Church, and was a past president for the Americus Rotary Club. Survivors include his daughters, Diane Davis Coakley and her husband, Don, of Mexico Beach, FL and Fran Davis Reynolds and her husband, Len, of Camilla, GA; his sons, Spencer Davis and his wife, Anne, of Albany, GA and John Davis and his wife, Tanya, of Valdosta, GA; his sister Rose Owens of Panama City Beach, FL; his nine grandchildren; and his six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Martin Davis; and his second wife, Jeannine Brooks Wester Davis.
