Sylvia Thornton

November 29, 1927 — December 29, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sylvia Thornton. Sylvia was born on November 29, 1927, and went home to be with the Lord on December 29, 2025. Through her journey of 98 years, she touched many lives as a pastor’s wife and was a loving and devoted mother to her 6 children.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Rodney Thornton, Theresa Jones, Roger Thornton, Theda Roberts, Mark Thornton, and Charlie Thornton; her grandchildren, and great grandchildren; and her brother, Louie Griner and sister, Bernette Matthews. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 siblings, and her beloved husband Howard Thornton.

Throughout her life, she found a steady, humble, and sincere strength in the gospel. She had the heart of a pastor’s wife and was always willing to serve without seeking attention or praise. Sylvia loved to garden and grow beautiful flowers. She loved to read and crochet. She found joy in preparing meals and will always be remembered for her tasty warm handmade biscuits. Let us remember the past with gratitude and look forward to the future of seeing her again in Heaven one day. "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart." —Proverbs 3:5
