Tommie R. Cooke, 76, of Bainbridge, GA passed away Friday, December 21, 2007 at Bainbridge Healthcare in Bainbridge, GA. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 23, 2007 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Paul Medley officiating. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery. Alpha Delta Kappa members and Decatur-Seminole Retired Educators will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 23, 2007, prior to the funeral service, at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com . Mrs. Cooke was born January 1, 1931 in Canton, GA to the now late Thomas Clinton Reece and Maude Milner Reece. She graduated from Cherokee High School and Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville and received her Master's Degree from the University of Georgia. Mrs. Cooke retired from Bainbridge High School as a home economics teacher and she also catered for many years. She was a member of Alpha Delta Kappa, International Honorary Organization for Women Educators and served as president of Bainbridge Fidelis Chapter, Albany District Chairman and Georgia State President. Mrs. Cooke served as Gulf Region Altruistic Chairman, Gulf Conference Coordinator and a member of the Founders' Tribute Committee for the 1997 International Convention in Kansas City, MO. and was also a member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association, where she served as Decatur-Seminole president. She was preceded in death by her husband, William T. Cooke and her son, William T. "Bill" Cooke, Jr. Survivors include one sister, Zackie Beavers and her husband Wayne of Talking Rock, GA; two sisters-in-law, Julia Cooke and her husband Steve Nelson of Bainbridge, GA and Sandra C. Smith and her husband Rayford of Riverdale, GA; and several nieces and nephews.
