Troy Kight

Troy Gene Kight, 84, of Bainbridge, GA, and formerly of Starkville, MS, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2012 at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. The funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John Woodrum and Mr. Charles Whittaker officiating. The graveside funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. CDT on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Arlington Cemetery in Arlington, TN. Memorial donations may be made to The Evangelical Alliance Mission, P.O. Box 969, Wheaton, IL 60187-0969 and designate the donation to Bill and Barbara Boggess in France and include "In Memory of Troy Kight" or donations can be made to Camp Victory, 363 Victory Circle, Samson, AL 36477. Mr. Kight was born February 18, 1928 in Rocky, Oklahoma, the son of Jesse Allen Kight and Jessie Lee Cook Kight. He was a graduate of the University of Oklahoma, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Mr. Kight was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War. He was managing editor for National 4-H News in Chicago, IL, editor of Progressive Farmer Magazine in Memphis, TN, and editor for Mississippi State University Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station research magazine. Mr. Kight was a deacon of Emmanuel Baptist Church in Starkville, MS and attended Grace Church in Bainbridge, GA. He was a member of the American Agricultural Editors Association, the Kiwanis Club, and the Agricultural Communicators in Education. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ruth Nikkel Kight of Bainbridge, GA; his daughters, Lisa Ann Kight of Arlington, TN and Meredith Kight Carraway and her husband, Daniel, of Bainbridge, GA; his brother, Chester Allen Kight of Tahlequah, OK; his sisters, Nina Marie Wafford of Ft. Gibson, OK and Neva June Bearden of San Antonio, TX; and his grandchildren, Lauren Beth Carraway, Aaron Troy Carraway, and Ruth Marie Carraway. Mr. Kight was preceded in death by his brothers, William H. "Bud" Kight, Glenn Dale Kight, Ivan Leon Kight; and his sisters, Mona Myrtle McAbee and Vera Lee Young.
