Vergie Mae Williamson Poitevient, 76, of Brinson, GA, formerly of Mitchell, County, passed away Friday, October 4, 2019. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Harrell and Rev. Stacy Glover officiating.  Interment will be at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery with B.J. Webb , James Pollock, Melton Pollock, Mike McCurdy, Michael Wilson and Justin Merchant serving as active pallbearers. Grady Burkett, Bobby Thursby, Kenneth Godwin, Kim Whitehead, Gary Welch and Tarrell Bennett will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Vergie Mae Williamson was born February 5, 1943 in Thomasville, GA, the daughter of Harrison and Georgia Davis Williamson. She lived in Mitchell County most of her life and owned Family Food Center in Pelham. Vergie moved to Brinson in 2001. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Owning a local grocery store meant Vergie knew lots of local folks. The fact that everyone loved her is a testimony to how she treated others. Vergie had the gift of encouragement and was a source of inspiration to those she encountered. She was honest and loyal with a strong work ethic. Vergie met each day's challenge with a positive attitude knowing there was a blessing waiting to be had. Survivors include her children, Rhonda & Jim Schiffner of Bainbridge, GA; her son-in-law, Wayne Duncan of Pelham, GA; her grandchildren, Angel Webb and her husband, B.J., and Joseph & Kristy Newsome; and her great-grandchildren, Danielle Bradshaw, Kelan Newsome, Justin Webb and Logan Webb. In addition to her parents, Vergie was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Gene Poitevient; her daughter, Wanda Duncan; and her siblings, Vertice Cone and J. W. Williamson. The Poitevient Family would like to express sincere gratitude to Phylecia Alexander for her kindness and compassion.
