Vernice was a member of West Street Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 40 years. Most centenarians will tell you the key to a happy life is to stay on the go. Vernice certainly took that to heart. She was always on the go especially if she thought a good meal was being served. She was quite the seamstress, known for her beautiful custom wedding gowns and her years on the line at Jack Winter. She loved to sing and noted the greatest melody of her life could be summed up in her children. Survivors include her children, Jeanette Faircloth of Bainbridge, GA, and Charles & Carol McDowell of Poulsbo, WA; her daughter-in-law, Linda McDowell of Bainbridge, GA; her sister, Dorothy Connell also of Bainbridge, GA; and her fourteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Vernice was preceded in death by her husband, Tom McDowell; her sons, Billy McDowell and James McDowell; and her siblings, Mildred Smith, Hershel Logue, Carlton Logue, Felton "Pet" Logue, Margie Mitchell, Raymond Logue and Dewey Logue.
