Virgil Lamar Finuff, 94, of Attapulgus, GA, passed away Thursday, July 16, 2020. Due to the ongoing concerns regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, a graveside funeral service will be held at Attapulgus Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, July 18, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Box 146, Attapulgus, GA 39815. Virgil Lamar Finuff was born February 1, 1926 in DeFuniak Springs, FL, the son of Jerry and Hancy Dockins Finuff. He was a graduate of Liberty County High School, Class of 1944. Virgil proudly served his country in World War II with the United States Army in the South Pacific. He married Evelyn Faircloth in 1950 and they made their home in North Florida/South Georgia. Virgil retired from Englehard and was a member of Attapulgus Baptist Church. Virgil hardly ever met a stranger. He sold red worms for years and always said it was a great way to meet new people and catch up with his old friends. Somehow over the years, those "new people" became known as "old friends". Of course, selling worms meant he had to try out his wares. You know, to be sure the fish would take the bait. Virgil tried them out on every bream bed he could find. Many will remember he made knives and always had a sharp one in his pocket. Survivors include his children, Quinton L. Finuff and Peggy F. Wade, both of Attapulgus; his grandchildren, Lamar, Amanda, Alaina, Daniel, Timothy, and Garrett; and his eight great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Virgil was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Evelyn Faircloth Finuff; his siblings, Ben Finuff, Hazel Duggar, Dorothy Holland, Bernadine Finuff, and Bevery Duncan; his grandson, Evan Lashley; his great-granddaughter, Audrey Finuff; and his son-in-law, Rex Wade, Sr.
