Mr. Virgil K. Strickland, 83, of Bainbridge, GA passed away Friday, July 20, 2007 at his residence. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2007 at Calvary Baptist Church with Austin Strickland, Robbie Strickland, Bill Story, Bobby Palmer, James Stewart, and Lewis Jones serving as active pallbearers and Dr. C. Phil Tondee and Dr. Carl G. Garnett officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memory Gardens. Mr. Strickland was born May 4, 1924 in Climax, GA, to the late Alex Strickland and Gussie Wilder Strickland. He graduated from Climax High School and then joined the U.S. Army where he served in WWII and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was an insurance salesman and sales manager for 42 years at United Insurance Company of America. Mr. Strickland was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and the VFW Post 4904. He is preceded in death by his wife Duann Gardner Strickland. Survivors include a daughter, Linda S. Giddings and husband Clark of Albany, GA; two sons, Marshall Strickland and wife Diane of Camilla, GA and Ray Strickland and wife Teresa of Brinson, GA; a sister, Myrtle Allen of Cairo, GA; and two grandchildren, Austin Strickland of Camilla, GA and Robbie Strickland of Valdosta, GA.
