Virginia Morris

August 21, 1920 — February 28, 2017

Virginia Pollock (Gigi) Morris, age 96, passed away on February 28, 2017, at Seminole Manor Nursing Home in Donalsonville. Graveside services for Mrs. Morris will be held at Oak City Cemetery on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 11:00 am. The Rev. James Scarborough will officiate. Her nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive visitors immediately after the service. Virginia was born in Bainbridge on August 21, 1920, to H. G. Pollock, Sr. and Lillian Thigpen Pollock. A beautiful middle child of seven children, Virginia grew up in West Bainbridge and Bainbridge, and graduated from West Bainbridge High School. She married Olinger Palmer (O.P.) Morris, Jr., and lived in Savannah, Americus and Montgomery, Alabama, where O.P. was a railroad conductor. Virginia faithfully served her churches in those cities, as well as Spring Creek Baptist Church of Reynoldsville. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Bainbridge, the Fronnie McQuaig Sunday School class, WMU, and Saints Alive Choir at First Baptist Church for many years. Virginia was a member of the Bona Fide Lodge 211 of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. After O.P.'s retirement from the railroad, they made their home on Lake Seminole in the years before his death. Virginia was a wonderful cook and took pleasure in providing meals for sick relatives and friends. Virginia Pollock Morris is survived by one daughter, Sandra Morris Bollinger of Shreveport, Louisiana, a granddaughter, Lori (Scott) Bollinger Alexander of Michigan, a grandson, Russell Bollinger, one great-grandson, Damien Bollinger, and five great-great-grandchildren of Shreveport. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Murry (Buddy) Hornsby, her nieces Cheryl Woltman Ward, Linda Hornsby Benford, Suzanne Slocumb Shores, Betty Slocumb Spires, Barbara Slocumb, Judi Hornsby Nichols, and Jan Hornsby Godwin, and nephews Jimmy Slocumb, Dennis Cliett, Bobby Pollock, Chuck Pollock, and Mike Pollock, and many great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother, Buck Pollock, her sisters, Audrey Pollock Cliett, Evelyn Pollock Woltman, Mell Pollock Slocumb Beall, Betty Sue Pollock, and Maxie Pollock Hornsby. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society, P. O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123 or a charity of your choice.
