Mr. Wallace Harold Cox, age 74, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015, at Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville, Georgia. Services for Mr. Cox will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 16, 2015, at Eastside Baptist Church in Cairo. The Rev. Carl Harrell and Rev. Chris Allen will be officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Durrel Cox, Ellis Cox, Danny Cox, George Serapin, Rory Brock and Josh Gainous will serve as pallbearers. Sydney Turner, Sonny Marshall, Ray Prince, Joe Ponder, Wayne Connell, and Frank Pritchett will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour before the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Wallace Harold Cox was born November 8, 1941, to Carlton Cox and Maude Godwin Cox, in Mitchell County, Georgia. On July 22, 1961, he married Frances Allen Cox, who survives him. Mr. Cox worked as a service technician for John Deere (Ag-Pro). He was a hard worker and friend to everyone. Wallace Cox was motivated by two things, his faith and his family. He was a faithful member of Eastside Baptist Church in Cairo, Georgia. Wallace served his church through the usher ministry, Brotherhood, he taught the Faith Sunday School Class, and served as a deacon. For many years, he served as the Grady County Baptist Brotherhood Association President. For the past 9 years, he served as the coordinator for Operation Christmas Child, Shoe Box Ministries, distribution center in Grady County. He loved giving of himself to the community. Wallace served and shared Jesus with all his being. He loved to talk and never met a stranger. He always had a kind word and a story to share with everyone that he met. Wallace was a servant at heart. Wallace Cox was dedicated to his family. His wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren know they were truly, deeply, loved. Wallace Cox will be sorely missed by his family and many, many friends. Wallace Harold Cox is survived by his wife of 54 years, Frances O. Allen Cox of Cairo; children, Sherrie Ann Thompson and husband, Dennis of Pelham, Georgia, Mary Jennifer Cox Stokes of Cairo, and Steven Harold Cox and wife, Chastity of Cairo; brothers, James C. Cox and wife, Jewel and Douglas Cox and wife, Gayle, all of Cairo, and Richard Cox and wife, Jeanette of Mitchell, County, Georgia; grandchildren, Sandra (Sandy) Allen and husband, the Rev. Chris Allen of Cairo, Caleb Stokes and wife, Brandi of Thomasville, Georgia, Jacob Stokes of Cairo, Hospitalman Courtney Cox of Naval Base Kitsap, Bremerton, Washington, Corporal Kayla Rivera of Naval Station, Norfolk, Virginia and husband, Sgt. Joshua Rivera of NSA Hampton Roads, Norfolk, Virginia, and Brandon Cox of Statesboro, Georgia; great-grandchildren, Chloe Allen, Cate Allen, and Milani Rivera. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ellis E. Cox, M. Earl Cox, Turner Cox; and sister, Verlon Weese.
